Set Up Group Assignment

Instructors: outlines how to set up a Group Assignment. This article includes information on basic settings, group management, peer review, and other advanced settings

To learn more generally about Group Assignment, see the Group Assignment Overview To walkthrough the assignment set up, click Continue in the box below. Click the arrows in the corner to view full screen.

Configuration for Individual assignments is split up into the following sections. The first two are required to save a new assignment, and the others can optionally be used to customize the learner experience when taking the assignment.

General

The General tab contains the basic information about the assignment.

  1. An assignment title may be provided by your LMS, but otherwise will need to be added
  2. A due date can optionally be added
  3. Instructions are the first thing the learner will see when taking the assignment. This can be a brief overview of the assignment or something more detailed. A video can be included with the instructions by clicking on the video icon next to the instructions. DO NOT use emojis in your instructions.

Evaluation

The Evaluation tab allows you to determine how groups will be evaluated. Each type provides you with a description on how each type works. Manual modes such as Percentage and Rubric require that an instructor review each submission and provide a score to each group, and Automatic evaluation types like Speech Delivery will automatically evaluate group submissions.

AI Feedback

AI Feedback provides groups with automatic analysis and coaching for each video. This feature can be disabled if it doesn't apply to your specific use case. AI Feedback cannot be disabled if using Speech Delivery or other AI analysis as the evaluation type.

Group Options

The group options control how groups are formed. There are three ways to form groups:

  • Instructor Managed - This is the default type. It requires instructors to manually form groups, and learners will be unable to proceed with the assignment until they have been placed in a group. Learners can either be manually be placed in groups, or a randomize option is available, and a tool to copy groups from a previous group assignment are both available to instructors.
  • Learner Managed - This option allows learners to choose which group to join. By default, 6 groups are generated, but this number can be customized.
  • Automatic - This option automatically distributes learners into the available groups. Any learners already in the course will immediately be placed in a group when the assignment is saved, and any learners who join later will be automatically placed in a group at that time. By default, 6 groups are generated, but this number can be customized.

Team Evaluation allows learners in a group with each other to provide five star or rubric evaluation of their team members contribution. These evaluations can be seen by instructors and optionally released to the team members.

Toolset

The toolset section allows you to customize which tools groups are able to use when completing their assignment.

  • The video tool tool allows learners to use the Bongo recorder to record their camera and/or their screen. Additionally learners are able to upload a video if they want.
  • The attachment tool allows learners to upload supplemental document or image files that can be included with their submission. Attachments can then be previewed in the browser or downloaded to review them.
  • The meeting tool allows learners to schedule and optionally record online meetings as part of their assignment. If the meeting is recorded, the recording can be used as the submission video.

Peer Review

Peer Review is disabled by default but can be enabled in this section. Peer Review allows learners to view and review submissions by other groups.

  1. The number of reviews you want to recommend your learners complete. Learners can still receive a score if they don't complete the configured number of reviews.
  2. By default, Bongo will try to balance peer reviews, so that groups who haven't yet been reviewed will be reviewed next. This option allows you to change this behavior and allow learners to pick who they review.
  3. Learners can optionally provide quantitative feedback to their peers either by using a 5-star scale or by using the same rubric used for their main evaluation.
