Instructors: outlines how to set up a Question & Answer assignment. This article includes information on creating and ordering questions, enabling Auto Analysis, peer review, and accessing advanced settings.
To learn more generally about Q&A, see the Question & Answer Overview. To walkthrough the assignment set up, click Continue in the box below. Click the arrows in the corner to view full screen.
Configuration for Q&A assignments is split up into the following sections. The first three are required to save a new assignment, and the others can optionally be used to customize the learner experience when taking the assignment.
The General tab contains the basic information about the assignment.
- An assignment title may be provided by your LMS, but otherwise will need to be added
- A due date can optionally be added
- Instructions are the first thing the learner will see when taking the assignment. This can be a brief overview of the assignment or something more detailed. A video can be included with the instructions by clicking on the video icon next to the instructions. DO NOT use emojis in your instructions.
The Evaluation tab allows you to determine how learners will be evaluated. Each type provides you with a description on how each type works. Manual modes such as Percentage and Rubric require that an instructor review each submission and provide a score to each learner, and Automatic evaluation types like Smart Scoring will automatically evaluate learner submissions.
At least one question must be added to create a Q&A assignment. Bongo can use learning material you already have to automatically generate questions for you. Alternatively, questions can be manually added instead. Clicking on a question will allow you to configure some question details.
- Question text is required for each question. This is the text that the learner will be prompted with when they take the assignment.
- A video question or scenario is optional, but is recommended to make the learner more engaged.
- If using Smart Scoring, you can weight each question by varying the number of points it is worth. A question can be worth from 1-10 points.
- If using Smart Scoring, response criteria is required. This is the information that Bongo will use to automatically evaluate the learner's response. This should be the answer to the question being asked of the learner. Learner responses are most effectively evaluated when they provide at least 10 words, so if you are expecting learners to only provide a few words, we suggest you use the Key Terms feature instead.
- Specific questions can be hidden without being fully deleted. Hidden questions will not be presented to learners.
- Key Terms, and Terms to avoid can be configured here. Key Terms and Terms to avoid are not part of the Smart Score.
This section allows you to customize how learners will take the Q&A assignment.
- By default, learners are required to share their microphone and camera when answering a question. This setting allows you to disable the camera portion if only audio is needed, and optionally require them to share their screen if the questions require them to do so.
- The start delay is the buffer time that learners have after seeing the question, but before they must record their answer.
- Learners will not be able to stop the recording until the minimum time has passed, and their recording will automatically end if they reach the maximum time
- Random question mode presents learners with questions in a random order. This option also allows learners to receive a random subset of the questions so that each learner is not necessarily answering the same questions.
AI Feedback provides learners with automatic analysis and coaching for each response. This feature can be disabled if it doesn't apply to your specific use case. AI Feedback cannot be disabled if using Smart Scoring or other AI analysis as the evaluation type.
Peer Review is disabled by default but can be enabled in this section. Peer Review allows learners to view and review submissions by other learners.
- The number of reviews you want to recommend your learners complete. Learners can still receive a score if they don't complete the configured number of reviews.
- By default, Bongo will try to balance peer reviews, so that learners who haven't yet been reviewed will be reviewed next. This option allows you to change this behavior and allow learners to pick who they review.
- Learners can optionally provide quantitative feedback to their peers either by using a 5-star scale or by using the same rubric used for their main evaluation.
